Brand Collateral


Maurice is a beautiful local Portland restaurant. Owned and operated by chef Kristen D. Murray, Maurice combines the best aspects of French patisserie and Kristen’s Norwegian heritage. Although an adored space, their brand and web presence was lacking. With this project my aim was to elevate what they already have by emphasizing Kristen’s innate knowledge of French cooking and minimalist design.


The Brand

Maurice has a playful and established logo. Wanting to keep their brand recognition, I worked to clean up some of their letter forms. Additionally, I applied this new logo and simplified color system to Maurice’s brand collateral. Kristen prides herself on using fresh produce in the shop, which means that the menu sometimes updates daily. I wanted to create a system that felt as clean and straightforward as the shop, but could also be a letter head should she need to print menus last minute.


The Website

Maurice’s current website feels very stereotypically French. It’s also lacking good organization and hierarchy of its content. My goal was to create a system that did a better job of displaying the sites content and also fit with the new tone of the brand.

Playing both with the geometric feel of the logo and Kristens passion for French and Norwegian culture, I created something that feels as modern and bright as the restaurant.
